Katsina Government Confirms Death of Retired Major General Rabe in Kidnappers’ Den

The Katsina State Government has confirmed the death of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar while being held captive by bandits.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasiru Mu’azu, described the incident as a painful tragedy and a significant loss to both Katsina State and Nigeria.

According to the commissioner, the retired military officer died as a result of health complications linked to diabetes and hypertension during his period in captivity.
Despite concerted efforts by the state government and security agencies to secure his freedom, the attempts ended unsuccessfully.
“The deceased retired general died a natural death from complications arising from diabetes and hypertension,” the statement noted.

The government said the late officer’s abduction and eventual death had deprived not only his family and Katsina State of a respected figure but had also robbed the nation of one of its distinguished citizens.

Governor Dikko Umaru Radda extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, describing the development as a sombre reminder of the persistent security challenges facing the country and the urgent need to intensify the fight against criminal elements.

He reiterated the commitment of the Katsina State Government to continue collaborating with the Federal Government and security agencies to ensure that those behind the abduction are apprehended and prosecuted.

The governor further assured residents that his administration remains steadfast in its resolve to eradicate banditry and protect lives and property across the state.

He prayed for the peaceful repose of the late Major General’s soul and urged citizens to continue supporting security agencies in efforts to restore lasting peace and security.
