Breaking: Abducted Retired Army General, Major General Rabe, Dies in Captivity

Major General Abubakar Rabe (rtd), a former senior officer of the Nigerian Army, has died while in captivity two weeks after he was abducted by gunmen in Katsina State.

Rabe was kidnapped alongside his wife while travelling through the Matazu area of the state on their way to attend a wedding ceremony.
The retired general’s death marks a tragic end to efforts aimed at securing the release of the couple after their abduction sparked widespread concern across the country.

Rabe, a former Director of Defence Information, was reportedly seized by armed men who ambushed their vehicle along the route. His driver sustained injuries during the attack but managed to escape and alert authorities.

The circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear, while there has been no immediate official update on the condition of his wife, who was abducted with him.

The incident has once again highlighted the persistent security challenges in parts of northern Nigeria, where kidnappings for ransom and attacks by armed groups continue despite ongoing security operations.

Major General Rabe’s death has drawn condolences from Nigerians, with many describing it as a painful loss and a stark reminder that insecurity continues to threaten citizens regardless of status or background.
