INEC Releases Final List of 18 Presidential Candidates for 2027 Election
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released a list of 18 presidential candidates and their running mates cleared to contest the 2027 presidential election.
The list features candidates from major political parties, including the All Progressives Congress (APC), African Democratic Congress (ADC), Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), African Action Congress (AAC), and Social Democratic Party (SDP), among others.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, 74, is listed as the APC presidential candidate with Vice-President Kashim Shettima, 59, as his running mate.
Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, 79, is listed as the ADC candidate, with former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, 61, as his running mate.
The NDC is fielding former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, 65, with former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, 69, as his running mate.
Other presidential candidates on the list include Labour Party’s Sunday Chibuzo Okereke; PDP’s Sandy Ojang Onor; African Action Congress candidate Omoyele Sowore; African Democratic Party’s Aliyu Abbas-Bin; and Action Peoples Party’s Kabiru Yusuf.
The list also includes former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose? Wait, no. The APM candidate is listed as Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, 58, with Musa Lawal Daura as running mate.
Other candidates are Sunday Adenuga of the Boot Party; Moses Olusoji Adebisi of the Democratic Labour Alliance; Ada Elizabeth Fredrick Okwori of the National Democratic Party; Nkem Esther Okereke of the National Rescue Movement; former Cross River State Governor Donald Duke of the Peoples Redemption Party; Adewole Ebenezer Adebayo of the SDP; Peter Ada Agada of the Young Progressives Party; and Daniel Daberechukwu Nwanyanwu of the Zenith Labour Party.
The release of the final list marks another major step towards the 2027 general election, with the 18 presidential tickets now set to compete for the presidency.
The presidential contest is expected to feature a mix of experienced political figures, former governors, former presidential candidates and new entrants as parties intensify preparations for the election.
