“In Nearly 40 Years of Marriage, We Have Never Raised Our Voices at Each Other” — First Lady Oluremi Tinubu
Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, on Thursday evening reflected on her almost four-decade marriage to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, highlighting respect, patience, and faith as the pillars of a strong and enduring relationship.
She spoke during an Interfaith Breaking of Fast (Iftar and Lent) held at the Old Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where she shared personal reflections on her interfaith marriage and the importance of peaceful coexistence.
According to the First Lady, the experience of living harmoniously with a partner of a different faith demonstrates that mutual understanding and respect are essential for a lasting union.
She said: “Some of us are married to men of different faiths, and we have lived together peacefully for many years. In my case, it is almost 40 years, and I cannot remember a time when we both raised our voices at each other. We have always tried to remain mature and respectful, and I believe that is the best way to live together.”
Mrs. Tinubu also noted that faith plays a central role in her relationships, adding that connections with people who do not acknowledge God rarely endure, stressing that belief in God and mutual respect remain the foundation of lasting partnerships.
