Full List: Supreme Court, NIA, DIA, Airport, National Assembly, Other Areas Go Dark As AEDC Announces Blackout

Several areas in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) were plunged into darkness following a power outage announced by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) on Monday, March 31, 2025. AEDC attributed the blackout to a technical fault on the feeder supplying electricity to the affected locations.

The power cut impacted numerous notable areas including:

  • Government Buildings: Supreme Court, National Assembly (NASS), National Judicial Institute (NJI), National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA)
  • Military Barracks: Wubassy Barracks, Army War College, Mambila Barracks, and others
  • Residential Areas: Utako, Wuye, Jabi, Lugbe Shoprite, Riverpark Estate, War College, and several others

AEDC assured residents that their technical team was working diligently to restore power as quickly as possible.

This incident follows a similar situation in February 2025 when the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) carried out scheduled maintenance that led to temporary blackouts in various parts of Abuja. This outage had affected important areas such as the National Hospital, Garki, Area 1, Asokoro, and others.

The current blackout has raised concerns about the stability of power distribution in the region.
