By Agency Report
Expressing dissatisfaction with the decision of the federal government to increase the pump price of fuel to N155.56, effective from Wednesday, Comrade Isah Abubakar, National President, Northern Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has charged Nigerians to mobilize and resist the new pump price.
Abubakar told INDEPENDENT in an interview that the time had come for Nigerians to mobilize and resist obnoxious policies of the All Progressives Congress (APC) government which according to him were only meant to make life difficult for the generality of the citizens.
The NYCN leader said: “It is unfortunate that Buhari has lost touch with reality. How can Nigerians pay high electricity bill as well as an accommodate an increase in the pump price of fuel in a period when the entire world is busy giving palliatives to their citizens to ease the effect of COVID-19. This should be of great concern to all Nigerians.”
He said that Nigerians should rise and demand what they wanted from the government. He stressed that President Muhammadu Buhari led a protest against Goodluck Jonathan’s government when the pump price of fuel was increased from N65 to N85. According to him, the opposition leaders, who are now in government-led protests against Jonathan’s government to stop the hike.
Abubakar insisted that Nigerians must rise and begin to mobilize, irrespective of who would lead the protest. “Nigerians should tell the government to its face that its new price regime would not be accepted. Nigerians must not wait for Professor Wole Soyinka or Femi Falana to organize the protest. People must take responsibility this time around” He said.
The Northern Youth leader maintained that Nigerians, especially the youth should take their future into their hands.
He said that his group had stated talking to people to join the Nigeria citizens action group to find ways of getting people come together and compel the government to desist from making life hard for the people.
While taking a sweep at Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Abubakar maintained that it was clear that the two labour unions had been bought over by the government.
According to him, the labour leaders were no longer interested in fighting for the good of the masses.
