Fubara: I’ve Reconciled With Wike for Peace in Rivers

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has announced that he and his predecessor, now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, have mended fences after months of political conflict.

In a statewide broadcast on Friday, Fubara revealed that their reconciliation was part of the peace process brokered by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the six-month emergency rule imposed on the state.

“During the six-month period, Mr. President graciously mediated between all parties. Our leader, His Excellency Nyesom Wike, the Rivers State House of Assembly, and I have all agreed to bury the hatchet and embrace peace and reconciliation in the interest of Rivers State,” the governor said.

The emergency rule, declared in March 2025 following a deep political crisis, saw the suspension of Governor Fubara, his deputy, and the State House of Assembly. It was lifted in mid-September, restoring democratic governance to the state.

The reconciliation between Fubara and Wike marks a major turning point in Rivers politics, which has in recent months been plagued by factional clashes and rising tensions between supporters of both leaders.

Fubara’s remarks signal a fresh attempt to consolidate peace and stability as Rivers State moves past its months-long political standoff.
