FAAN to End Cash Transactions Across Airports by February 29

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has directed the immediate cessation of all cash collections and transactions across its operations nationwide, setting February 29, 2026, as the deadline for full compliance.

The directive was issued by FAAN’s Managing Director, Olubunmi Kuku, in a memorandum dated February 3, 2026, titled “Cessation of Cash Collections/Transactions.” The memo was circulated to all directorates and relevant departments within the agency.

According to the memo, the move is part of efforts to strengthen transparency, enhance accountability, and align the authority’s financial processes with global best practices in airport management. All payments for FAAN services — including landing fees, parking charges, concessions, and other statutory payments — are to be made through designated electronic platforms.

The new policy is expected to reduce revenue leakages, curb corruption, and improve operational efficiency across the country’s airports.

Directorates have been instructed to ensure adequate sensitisation of staff, concessionaires, airlines, and other airport users ahead of the implementation deadline. FAAN management also emphasised that no department or unit will be permitted to receive cash payments after the February 29 cut-off date.

Industry stakeholders say the development marks a significant step in the ongoing modernisation of Nigeria’s aviation sector, as authorities continue reforms aimed at boosting revenue generation and restoring public confidence in airport operations.
