El-Rufai Family Gives Defence Minister Seven Days to Retract Allegation Over Southern Kaduna Killings

The family of former Kaduna State Governor and former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mallam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, has demanded that Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (Rtd.), retract an allegation that the former governor actively planned killings in Southern Kaduna.

The family made the demand in a statement signed by Hon. Mohammed Bello El-Rufai on behalf of the family, following remarks reportedly made by the Defence Minister during a live edition of Politics Today on Channels Television on September 3, 2026.

According to the family, General Musa alleged during the programme that El-Rufai was involved in planning killings in Southern Kaduna while serving as governor of Kaduna State.

The family described the allegation as “grave” and expressed concern that it was made without the presentation of evidence to support the claim.

While acknowledging General Musa’s right to express his personal views, the family said it was equally entitled to demand credible evidence for an allegation of such magnitude.

The statement said: “In the absence of such evidence, we call on him to publicly retract the allegation through the same medium on which it was made.”

The family subsequently gave the Defence Minister seven days from the date of the statement to either provide evidence substantiating the allegation or issue a full public retraction and apology.

It warned that failure to comply with the demand would leave the family with no option but to pursue “all appropriate legal remedies available under the law” over what it described as unsubstantiated allegations.

The statement was signed by Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, who said he was acting for and on behalf of the El-Rufai family.
