Edun, Dangiwa Resign from Tinubu’s Cabinet, Not Sacked – Presidency
The Wale Edun, former Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, and Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, former Minister of Housing and Urban Development, have both resigned from the Federal Executive Council, contrary to speculation that they were removed from office.
According to official statement by the Special Adviser to the President, Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Edun voluntarily stepped down on health grounds, formally submitting his resignation letter to Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the announcement of his replacement on Tuesday.
Edun, who turned 70 on Monday, reportedly used the occasion of his birthday to tender his resignation, expressing gratitude to the President for the opportunity to serve.
“It has been a pleasure and privilege to serve your administration and the Renewed Hope Agenda,” he wrote, adding that Nigeria had grown “stronger, more resilient and more internationally respected” under Tinubu’s leadership.
Before his exit was officially announced, Edun paid a valedictory visit to the President at the Presidential Villa, where both men held a closed-door meeting lasting about an hour. He is expected to return to private business interests following his departure from government.
Similarly, Dangiwa also resigned his position, thanking the President for the opportunity to serve in the cabinet. His exit paves the way for a new nominee for the housing portfolio.
Dangiwa, an architect, previously served as Managing Director of the Federal Mortgage Bank and held the position of Secretary to the Katsina State Government before his ministerial appointment in August 2023.
President Tinubu has since commended both former ministers for their contributions to his administration’s economic reform agenda, wishing them success in their future pursuits.
Meanwhile, the President has tasked the newly appointed Finance Minister, Taiwo Oyedele, with consolidating ongoing reforms and strengthening fiscal discipline.
He is also expected to forward the nomination of Muttaqha Rabe Darma as the new Minister of Housing to the Senate for confirmation in the coming days.
