Court upholds Nnadi Usman–Led Caretaker Committee as lawful Labour Party leadership
A Federal High Court has affirmed Senator Nnadi Esther Usman–led National Caretaker Committee as the only valid and lawful leadership of the Labour Party.
Delivering judgment on Tuesday, Honourable Justice Lifu held that the tenure of the former national chairman, Julius Abure, had elapsed in line with an earlier ruling of the Supreme Court. The court reaffirmed that the apex court’s judgment effectively ended Abure’s leadership, leaving no legal basis for his continued claim to the position.
Justice Lifu consequently ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to immediately recognize Senator Nnadi Usman and the National Caretaker Committee as the authentic leadership of the Labour Party.
The ruling is expected to bring clarity to the prolonged leadership crisis within the party and may significantly impact its internal administration and preparations for future political activities.
