Christmas: Borno police deploy 1,000 officers across state after mosque bomb blast
The Borno State Police Command has deployed more than 1,000 officers across major streets, flashpoints, and places of worship as Christians celebrate Christmas, following a bomb blast at a mosque in the state.
The deployment comes after an explosion on Wednesday evening at a mosque, which claimed the lives of five people and left at least 35 others injured. The incident heightened security concerns ahead of the Christmas festivities.
According to the police, the officers have been stationed at churches, motor parks, markets, major roads, and other strategic locations to ensure the safety of residents and prevent any breakdown of law and order during the holiday period.
The Commissioner of Police in Borno State said the security measures were part of a proactive effort to reassure the public and protect lives and property. He urged residents to remain vigilant, cooperate with security agencies, and promptly report any suspicious movements or objects.
Meanwhile, security agencies have commenced investigations into the mosque blast, while patrols and stop-and-search operations have been intensified across the state.
Residents have been advised to go about their celebrations peacefully and adhere to security guidelines as authorities work to maintain calm and stability throughout the Christmas season.
