Chaos Erupts at PDP Secretariat as Faction Moves to Oust National Chairman Damagum
Fresh turmoil has broken out within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following an attempt by a faction to unseat the party’s National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum.
The development occurred on Monday when a group of party members reportedly stormed the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja, insisting on installing Abdulrahman Mohammed as the new national chairman.
Eyewitnesses said the situation created confusion and heightened tension among staff and security operatives stationed at the party headquarters.
It was gathered that the group, believed to be loyal to some influential stakeholders within the opposition party, accused Damagum of failing to provide effective leadership and demanded his immediate replacement.
Security personnel were said to have intervened swiftly to prevent the confrontation from escalating into violence, as both camps exchanged heated words over the legitimacy of the leadership change.
As of the time of filing this report, neither Damagum nor the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) had issued an official statement regarding the attempted takeover.
The incident marks the latest episode in the PDP’s deepening internal crisis, as rival factions continue to jostle for control of the party’s leadership ahead of upcoming political realignments.
