Atiku Camp Embarrassed as ADC Structure Collapses in Adamawa
A major political storm has erupted in Adamawa State following a mass resignation of key stakeholders from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a development many observers say reflects poorly on the influence of Atiku Abubakar within the party’s internal dynamics.
At a high-level meeting held on April 18, 2026, at the residence of Mijiyewa Umaru Kugama, critical stakeholders aligned with Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed Binani announced their collective exit from the African Democratic Congress, citing a total collapse of internal democracy.
Congress Controversy Sparks Fallout
The group strongly condemned the recently conducted party congresses led by Ishaya Bauka, describing them as “manipulated” and imposed against the will of party members. They further alleged that valid court orders were ignored, while genuine aspirants and stakeholders were sidelined through intimidation and exclusion.
According to the communiqué, these actions have stripped the party of credibility in Adamawa State, rendering its structure “illegitimate and unacceptable.”
Vote of No Confidence and Mass Exit
In a decisive move, the stakeholders passed a vote of no confidence in both state and national leadership of the ADC. This was followed by what they described as an “immediate and irreversible” mass resignation.

They also rejected all outcomes of the congresses, declaring them null and void.
Binani to Lead Political Realignment
The group mandated Senator Binani to spearhead a transition into a new political platform ahead of the 2027 general elections, particularly the governorship race in Adamawa.
Plans are already underway for a coordinated defection across all political structures—from polling units to the state level—alongside aggressive grassroots mobilization.
Wider Political Implications
The crisis is being interpreted in some quarters as a setback for Atiku, a dominant figure in Adamawa politics, raising questions about his grip on party cohesion and influence within opposition ranks.
A New Political Chapter
The stakeholders concluded that their exit marks “the beginning of a new political direction” focused on fairness, inclusiveness, and adherence to democratic principles.
With tensions escalating and alignments shifting, Adamawa’s political landscape appears set for a significant realignment ahead of 2027.
