Alia Hails DSS Arrest of Suspects Over Ayilamo Attack

Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has commended the Department of State Services (DSS) for the swift arrest of three suspects allegedly linked to the deadly attack on Ayilamo community in Logo Local Government Area of the state.
The attack, which occurred on Thursday, claimed the lives of several people, including four police officers, according to a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Sir Tersoo Kula.
Governor Alia described the arrests as an important breakthrough in efforts to unravel the circumstances surrounding the attack and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
He urged the DSS to intensify its investigation and thoroughly examine all information obtained from the suspects in custody.
The governor condemned the attack as a “despicable” assault on the peace-loving people of Ayilamo and a serious threat to the security and stability of Benue State.
He expressed particular concern over the reported killing of four police officers, saying their deaths highlighted the sacrifices security personnel continue to make in protecting communities.
Alia said the incident was another disturbing reminder of the persistent insecurity and repeated attacks targeting vulnerable communities and security personnel in the area.
He commiserated with the people of Ayilamo, the families of the victims and residents of Logo Local Government, assuring them that the government stood with them during the difficult period.
The governor also expressed his condolences to the Inspector-General of Police and the Commissioner of Police, Benue State Command, over the loss of the four officers.
He honoured the fallen officers for their courage and sacrifice, while praying for strength for their families, colleagues and loved ones.
On the ongoing investigation, Alia called on security agencies to pursue every available lead and identify other individuals allegedly involved in the attack.
He said accomplices, sponsors, collaborators and anyone found culpable must be arrested and made to face the full weight of the law.
The governor further assured residents that his administration would continue to work closely with security agencies to strengthen security in Ayilamo, Logo and other vulnerable communities across the state.
He said the government remained committed to preventing further attacks, protecting lives and property, restoring peace and providing necessary support to affected communities.
Alia also appealed to residents of Ayilamo and neighbouring communities to remain calm, vigilant and law-abiding, urging them to provide credible and timely information to security agencies.
He cautioned residents against actions capable of escalating tensions or interfering with the ongoing investigation.
The governor assured the people of Benue State that his administration would remain resolute in its determination to protect lives and property, uphold justice and restore lasting peace across the state.
