Amaechi: Peter Obi actually won 2023 presidential election…

Former Minister of Transportation and ex-Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, has asserted that Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, actually won the presidential election in Rivers State.

Speaking during an X Space discussion on Saturday, Amaechi said, “I can agree with you to some extent that Obi won Rivers State, but I don’t know how the results were changed.”

His comment comes amid ongoing controversy surrounding the February 2023 presidential poll in the state, where the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner.

Amaechi further revealed that he and former Ekiti State governor, Kayode Fayemi, initiated private talks that eventually led to the formation of a new opposition coalition to challenge the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.

According to him, the discussions later brought in former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai, former Secretaries to the Government of the Federation Babachir Lawal and Boss Mustapha, former Senate President David Mark, ex-Interior Minister Rauf Aregbesola, former Sports Minister Bolaji Abdullahi, and several others.

The coalition has now chosen the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its political platform.
