Adesanya-Davies Calls for Safe Return of Missing Children, Teachers on Children’s Day

Former presidential candidate and clergywoman, Funmilayo Adesanya-Davies, has called on government authorities and security agencies to intensify efforts toward the safe return of missing children and teachers in Oyo State.

In a Children’s Day 2026 message issued on Tuesday, Adesanya-Davies described Nigerian children as “the laughter in our homes, the brilliance in our classrooms, and the promise of Nigeria’s future,” while urging citizens to recommit themselves to protecting the nation’s young people.

The peace advocate said although Children’s Day is a time of celebration, her heart “feels both joy and sorrow” due to the plight of children and educators still unaccounted for in Oyo State.

“We have not forgotten your children, your teachers, your loved ones. We cry with you, and we will not stop speaking until every missing child and teacher is found and brought safely home,” she said.

Adesanya-Davies urged the government, security agencies, and stakeholders across Nigeria to make the protection of children and educators a top priority, warning that no nation can truly be secure if its children are unsafe.

“A nation that cannot keep its children safe cannot call itself secure,” she stated, while calling for swift, transparent, and compassionate action in addressing insecurity affecting schools and communities.

She also appealed to parents and teachers living in fear not to lose hope, assuring them of the support of the Church, communities, and Nigerians of goodwill.

The former presidential candidate further called on Nigerians to build safer schools and more vigilant communities where children can learn without fear and teachers can carry out their duties safely.

She prayed for God’s protection over Nigerian children and for the safe return of all missing persons, while wishing children across the country a happy Children’s Day celebration.
