Zulum Warns Residents Against Supporting Boko Haram After Jilli Airstrike

Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has issued a strong warning to residents against aiding or providing any form of support to Boko Haram insurgents, following recent military operations in the state.

The warning comes in the wake of an airstrike carried out by the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai on April 11, 2026, targeting the Jilli general area in Gubio Local Government Area.

Jilli, a border community between Borno and neighboring Yobe State, has been identified as a strategic location allegedly exploited by insurgents and their logistics suppliers.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Dauda Iliya, Governor Zulum described the Jilli market as a notorious hub for insurgent activities. He revealed that both Jilli and Gazabure markets had been shut down by the Borno State Government five years ago due to security concerns.

“I have been properly briefed on the airstrike carried out by the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai on Jilli market, a border town between Borno and Yobe states,” Zulum said. “Let me state categorically that the Borno State Government closed Jilli and Gazabure markets five years ago.”

The governor further disclosed that he is in close consultation with the Yobe State Government and military authorities over the incident.

Zulum emphasized that his administration maintains strict coordination with security agencies before reopening markets or resettling communities affected by insurgency. He reiterated his commitment to protecting law-abiding citizens and sustaining joint efforts to restore peace and stability across Borno State.

He also urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible intelligence to support ongoing military operations.
