Mimiko Attacks Opposition Figures, Defends Tinubu’s Record
Former Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko, has launched a scathing criticism of several opposition politicians, accusing them of acting out of personal interests rather than national concern while defending the leadership credentials of President Bola Tinubu.
In a strongly worded statement, Mimiko alleged that former Interior Minister, Rauf Aregbesola, is not opposing Tinubu in the interest of Nigeria but due to “selfishness and stubbornness” after falling out of favour.
He also took aim at Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, describing him as “a well-known liar.” Mimiko claimed that Obi falsely took credit for building schools in Anambra State, alleging that teachers in the state dismissed the claims.
The former governor further criticised Obi’s record in office, asserting that he failed to pay workers’ salaries during his tenure, contrasting it with Tinubu’s introduction of a 13th-month salary for workers while serving as governor of Lagos State.
Mimiko did not spare other opposition figures, including former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, whom he accused of initiating payments to terrorists, and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, over past comments about raising funds through the sale of national assets.
He also criticised Senator Dino Melaye, alleging that he spends ill-gotten wealth on luxury cars.
According to Mimiko, the opposition figures lack the competence to challenge Tinubu, whom he described as an “astute administrator.”
The remarks add to the growing political exchanges among key actors ahead of future electoral contests, highlighting deep divisions within Nigeria’s political landscape.
