Zamfara Monarchs Commend DSS Over Arrest of Arms Suppliers

Traditional rulers in Zamfara State have expressed strong appreciation to the Department of State Services (DSS) for its recent breakthroughs in tackling insecurity across the state.

The monarchs, speaking through the Emir of Anka and Chairman of the State Council of Chiefs, Dr. Attahiru Muhammad Ahmad, particularly lauded the security agency for intercepting two suspected arms couriers on the Funtua–Gusau expressway.

“We are delighted with the DSS for successfully apprehending two dangerous arms suppliers along the Funtua–Gusau route,” the Emir said. “Information reaching us indicates that the suspects were transporting five AK-47 rifles, large quantities of ammunition, and other items intended for a notorious bandit based in Kwara State.”

He added that the operation had dealt a severe blow to bandit activities in Zamfara and reinforced confidence that security agencies are committed to restoring peace. “This arrest is a clear warning to criminal elements that their days are numbered. With God’s help, we will overcome banditry in our state,” the Emir, a retired diplomat, stressed.

Security sources revealed that, beyond the weapons, the DSS also recovered 30 rounds of live ammunition, 10 walkie-talkies, N156,000 in cash, and AK-47 rifle butts.

Zamfara has remained a major flashpoint of insecurity in the Northwest. On Monday, armed men stormed a mosque in Gidan Turbe, Tsafe Local Government Area, abducting about 40 worshippers during morning prayers.

Just last month, the State House of Assembly held a special session lamenting the worsening insecurity and urging the federal government to act swiftly to save the state from further descent into chaos.
