By ABIODUN JIMOH, ABEOKUTA
The Managing Director, Everest Metal Nigeria Limited, Vikaa Das has emphasised on the genesis behind its company desire to donate electricity equipment to its host communities in Ogun State.
The company in its magnanimity and known for reliable corporate social responsibility donated a 500 KVA transformer and 100 electricity poles to Ipetoro and Ewu Oruku communities in Sagamu local government area in Ogun State recently.
This donation to a great extent has brought a new lease of life and smiles on the faces of people in its host communities who have never witnessed electricity in time past.
The MD, who was delighted with the donation, stated that the affected communities would now have a feel of what electricity looks like, having been in darkness for many years.
With this development, the two communities will now connect to the comity of communities in the Gateway State, through the efforts of this company, having taken cognisance of the deplorable conditions of the habitats of these communities over the years.
Furthermore, the elated Oba Kazeem Olaonipekun Gbadamosi, Ologijo of Ogijo speaking at the presentation of the equipment commended Everest Metal Nigeria Ltd for providing electricity in the two remote farming communities that have never been connected to electricity before now.
The monarch affirmed that this gesture would further create a mutual and peaceful coexistence between companies and their host communities.
The traditional ruler hereby challenged companies operating in the state to assist government by providing necessary infrastructure to their host communities. “The responsibility of developing the country should not be left to governments alone if Nigeria is to move forward.
“For the country to progress, in terms of infrastructure it behoves companies and wealthy individuals to complement government’s effort in terms of provision of infrastructure.”
Moreso, Oba Gbadamosi appealed to the federal and state governments to find a cheaper way of generating power. “In Nigeria we have a lot of wastes, but we are definitely not making use of these wastes, some waste can be used to generate electricity.”
Meanwhile, a representative of a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), Mr Leslie Adogane, who influenced the donation of the project narrated how the donation came about.
He said: “When Ipetoro team rushed to us and they said the company was polluting their environment, we told them that we would engage and discuss with the company. I am glad to tell you that this is the result of our efforts.
