Video: NNPP flag removed from Kano Government House

The flag of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has been removed from the Kano State Government House, further fuelling speculations over the political future of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

The development was observed on Friday when the party’s flag, which had flown alongside the Nigerian flag at the Government House since Yusuf assumed office, was taken down. No official explanation has yet been given by the state government for the action.

The removal of the NNPP flag comes amid heightened political tension in Kano State and follows reports of deepening internal crises within the party. It also coincides with growing rumours of an imminent defection by the governor to another political party.

In recent days, Governor Yusuf has been at the centre of intense political consultations, including a visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, a move widely interpreted by political observers as linked to ongoing realignments ahead of future elections.

While government officials have remained silent on the significance of the flag’s removal, analysts view the development as a strong symbolic gesture that may signal a major political shift in the state’s leadership.

As of the time of filing this report, the NNPP leadership in Kano has also not issued any statement reacting to the development.
