UN Sympathise With Nigeria Over Recent Death of 5 Boundary Officials

The Special Representative of the Secretary-General, United Nations for West Africa, Amb. Mohamed Chambas has commiserated with the people and Government of Nigeria over the recent killing of some boundary officials.
The message was in a statement signed by Mr Kabir Bala, Resident Information Officer, Thursday in Abuja.
It will be recall that three Nigerian officials and two foreign nationals working along the Nigeria-Cameroon boundary corridors near Kontcha in Cameroon were killed on Feb. 1 by unknown gunmen.
Among the Nigerian officials killed are: Alhaji Abdullahi Baffa, Ibrahim Kamga and Surveyor Zakari Bakari.
They were killed while carrying out a tripartite assignment along with Cameroon and UN officials near Kontcha, a border community in Cameroon.
Chambas described the incident as unfortunate and disturbing.
He urged both Nigeria and Cameroon not to be distracted by the incident but rather work together for the successful completion of the demarcation.
He also expressed the support of the UN in the conclusion of the demarcation of the boundary between Nigeria and Cameroon.
Mr Abubakar Malami, Attorney-General of the Federation, said the incident was an indication on the need for all stakeholders to team up and bring an end to terrorism in the sub region.
He added that Nigerian government would not waver in its commitment to end any form of terror within its territory.
Also, Director-General, National Emergency Management Agency, Mohammed Sani, described the incident as a loss not only to Nigeria but the entire world, especially the organisations working toward lasting peace in the region
Similarly, the Director of French Institute in Nigeria, Mr Lubin Aidasso prayed for the souls of the departed.
