Two Cops Die, 8 Others Sustain Injuries In Road Crash In Ondo

Two policemen died in a lone accident on Oba-Ile/Akure Road in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State on Tuesday, while another eight sustained serious injuries.

Sources revealed that the policemen were travelling in a blue Nissan Pick up with registration number NPF 9557C when the accident occurred.

The accident was said to have happened as a result of over speeding at Joe Jane Hotel, Oba Ile axis when one of the tyres of the vehicle burst and the driver lost control.

According to an eyewitness account, the accident happened at the sharp bend on the dual carriage when the of tyre of the vehicle burst and it somersaulted. In the process, two among the 12 policemen on board the vehicle died on the spot.

According to Federal Road Safety Corps(FRSC) report, eight other policemen sustained different degrees of injuries and all the occupants of the vehicle were males.

Other police officers present, however, rescued the victims and evacuated the remains of the casualties of the accident which occurred around 11:25am.

They were taken to Police Clinic, Oda Road, Ala Quarters, Akure.

Officials of FRSC therefore cleared the obstruction caused by the accident from the road to avoid gridlock.
