Truck loses control, kills four school children in Kogi community

A tragic accident in Egbolo, a community in the Igalamela-Odolu Local Government Area of Kogi State, has claimed the lives of at least four schoolchildren after a truck conveying building materials lost control and rammed into pedestrians on Monday.

According to local sources, the truck was reportedly descending a slope when the driver lost control, veering off the road and crashing into a group of schoolchildren walking home. Several other children and pedestrians sustained varying degrees of injuries.

Residents described scenes of chaos and distress as community members rushed to rescue the injured and alert emergency responders. Some victims were taken to nearby medical facilities for urgent treatment.

Authorities are yet to release an official casualty figure, but local officials confirm that an investigation into the cause of the crash has begun. Preliminary suspicions point to possible brake failure, though this has not been officially confirmed.

Community leaders have called on the government to improve road safety measures in the area, noting that similar incidents have occurred in the past due to narrow roads and poorly maintained vehicles frequently used for transporting heavy materials.

More updates are expected as officials continue their assessment of the incident.
