Tinubu Urged to Intervene in Oyo APC Crisis Ahead of 2027 Elections
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State and aspirant for the Egbeda/Ona-Ara Federal Constituency, Samuel Oluwaseun Adenitan, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently intervene in the internal affairs of the party in Oyo State to strengthen its chances ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement titled “Act Now — Oyo is Watching Jagaban Advises Tinubu,” Adenitan described Oyo State as the political fulcrum of the South-West, warning that the APC risks further fragmentation if key stakeholders fail to unite before the next election cycle.
He stressed that the future of the APC in the state depends largely on a working alliance between the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, and former governorship candidate, Teslim Kolawole Folarin.
According to him, previous divisions between both leaders contributed to the APC’s electoral setbacks in the state, particularly following disagreements over governorship ambitions and political alignments in past elections.
Adenitan noted that reconciliation efforts appeared to have begun in 2023 when Oba Ladoja publicly endorsed Folarin and urged his supporters to move beyond past grievances.
He also commended Senator Folarin for initiating reconciliation moves across Oyo APC through his 14-Federal Constituency tour, which he said had brought together notable party figures including Adebayo Adelabu, Sharafadeen Alli, Abdulfatai Buhari and Yunus Akintunde under the Renewed Hope platform.
The APC stalwart, however, argued that party structure alone would not guarantee victory in Oyo without the support of traditional institutions and grassroots mobilisation.
He therefore called on President Tinubu to convene a meeting involving the Olubadan, Senator Folarin and all APC aspirants in the state to foster unity and create a consensus-driven political framework ahead of the party primaries.
According to Adenitan, such an intervention would help curb internal rivalry, strengthen party discipline and improve voter mobilisation across the state.
He added that aligning traditional institutions with party structures had produced electoral stability in states such as Lagos, Kano and Borno, insisting that Oyo State should not be left behind.
“The time for piecemeal reconciliation is over. The time for total synergy is now. Oyo is watching. Nigeria is watching. The President must act,” he stated.
