Atiku Vows to Restore Fuel Subsidy If Elected President

Former Vice President and presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has pledged to restore fuel subsidy if elected President of Nigeria.

Atiku made the promise during a Facebook Live session, as debate continues over the impact of the removal of petrol subsidy on Nigerians and the wider economy.

The former vice president said his administration would review the current fuel pricing policy and take steps to ease the economic burden on citizens.

The subsidy was removed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu shortly after he assumed office in May 2023, triggering significant changes in petrol prices and contributing to concerns over the rising cost of living.

Atiku’s pledge comes amid renewed political debate over the government’s economic policies and the measures required to cushion the effects of rising fuel and food prices on Nigerians.

The ADC presidential candidate has continued to campaign on economic reforms and policies aimed at improving living standards ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
