Breaking: Tinubu Signs Revised Electoral Act 2026 into Law, Approves Electronic Results Transmission

President Bola Tinubu has assented to the Electoral Act, 2022 (Repeal and Re-Enactment) Bill, 2026, formally enacting it into law and introducing fresh reforms to Nigeria’s electoral framework.

The development followed the harmonisation of the bill by the National Assembly, which concluded deliberations on the proposed amendments earlier in the week before forwarding the final version to the President for assent.

Key among the provisions approved by lawmakers in both chambers is the adoption of electronic transmission of election results. However, the legislation also retains manual collation as a contingency measure to serve as backup where necessary.

The revised law is expected to strengthen transparency, improve efficiency in the electoral process, and address operational challenges observed in previous elections.

Further details of the new amendments are anticipated to be released by relevant authorities in the coming days.
