Tinubu Mourns Soldiers Killed in Borno Attack, Calls Them ‘Unforgettable Heroes’

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the killing of soldiers in a terrorist attack on a military base in Benisheikh, Borno State, describing the fallen troops as “unforgettable heroes” who made the ultimate sacrifice for the nation.

In a State House press release, the President condoled with the families of the deceased soldiers and the Nigerian military following the assault on troops of the 29 Task Force Brigade under Operation HADIN KAI.

The Defence Headquarters confirmed that the attack occurred in the early hours of Thursday, April 9, 2026, resulting in casualties among the troops.

Tinubu praised the bravery and resilience of the soldiers, noting that they fought gallantly to repel the attackers and prevent insurgents from overrunning nearby communities. He said the incident reflects the desperation of terrorist groups amid sustained military offensives.

“I extend my condolences to the families of our gallant soldiers, led by Brigadier-General Oseni Omoh Braimah, who paid the supreme price in defence of our country,” the President said, assuring that their sacrifices would not be in vain.

The President urged the Armed Forces not to be discouraged by the loss but to remain steadfast in the fight against insurgency. He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting the military with necessary equipment and improved welfare.

Tinubu also called on Nigerians and the media to stand firmly behind the military, warning against any form of glorification of attacks on security forces.

“These soldiers are our heroes—unforgettable and irreplaceable,” he said.

He further extended condolences to the government and people of Borno State, pledging continued collaboration to achieve lasting peace and defeat terrorism in the region.
