Tinubu Meets Wike, Fubara, Rivers Leaders Amid Political Tension

President Bola Tinubu on Monday night held a closed-door meeting with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara; and other political leaders from Rivers State at the Presidential Villa, Aso Rock, Abuja.

Details of the meeting were not officially disclosed as of press time. However, the meeting is widely seen as part of ongoing efforts to address the lingering political crisis in Rivers State, which has strained relations between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Wike.

A source familiar with the development told The Nation that Governor Fubara later accompanied Wike to his residence in Guzape, Abuja, following the meeting with the President. According to the source, the governor appealed to the FCT minister, pledging to maintain respect and improve their working relationship.

Neither the Presidency nor the parties involved have issued an official statement on the outcome of the talks. Political observers, however, say the high-level intervention by President Tinubu underscores the gravity of the Rivers crisis and the federal government’s interest in restoring political stability in the state.

The meeting comes amid heightened tensions in Rivers State’s political landscape, including disagreements within the state’s executive and legislative arms, raising concerns about governance and stability in the oil-rich state.
