Tinubu Hosts Governors to Interfaith Iftar, Pushes for Unity, State Policing

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday hosted state governors to an interfaith breaking of fast in Abuja, using the occasion to call for unity, compassion, and urgent reforms to address insecurity across the country.
The gathering, held as Muslims observe Ramadan and Christians mark Lent, brought together leaders across religious and political lines. The President said the season serves as a reminder that beyond governance, Nigerians are “a people of conscience.”
Tinubu commended governors for their outreach efforts during the holy period but urged them to intensify support for vulnerable citizens, particularly youths, women, and underserved communities at the grassroots.
“Development must not recognise religion. Compassion must not recognise tribe. Opportunity must not recognise status,” the President said, stressing the need for inclusive governance.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to national recovery, Tinubu declared that his promises to Nigerians would not be delayed, adding that improved security remains central to economic growth and social stability.
“Security is the foundation of prosperity. Without it, farms cannot flourish, businesses cannot grow, and families cannot sleep in peace,” he stated.
The President also reiterated plans to establish state police as part of broader security reforms, describing the move as a practical step toward empowering subnational governments to better protect citizens.
“This is not about politics. It is about practicality,” he said. “We must be bold enough to reform what is not working and united enough to protect what we hold dear.”
Tinubu expressed optimism about Nigeria’s future, urging collaboration among leaders to deliver hope and strengthen national unity.
“Nigeria will be safer. Nigeria will be stronger. And together, we must commit to making it so,” he said.
