Tinubu Hails Lebara Nigeria Launch, Says Telecom Sector Driving Economic Growth
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has welcomed the official launch of Lebara Nigeria, describing it as a strong endorsement of Nigeria’s growing digital economy and its position as a prime destination for technology investment in Africa.
In a State House statement, the President noted that Nigeria’s telecommunications sector remains a key driver of economic expansion, recording a 5.78 percent year-on-year growth in the third quarter of 2025 and contributing more than 14 percent to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Tinubu commended the leadership of Lebara Nigeria, particularly its Chief Executive Officer, Teniola Stuffman, for their role in expanding access to telecommunications services, creating jobs, and strengthening the country’s digital infrastructure. He stressed that such investments are vital for promoting financial inclusion, fostering innovation, and accelerating national development.
The President also acknowledged the support of the British High Commission, represented by Deputy High Commissioner Jonny Baxter, noting that their involvement highlights the enduring economic and diplomatic ties between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.
He further recognised the contributions of Bimbo Ashiru and members of the advisory board for their commitment to advancing Nigeria’s growth potential through strategic investments.
According to the President, initiatives like Lebara Nigeria will play a crucial role in job creation, youth empowerment, enterprise development, and economic diversification. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to maintaining a stable, transparent, and investor-friendly environment that supports innovation and private sector growth.
Tinubu wished the company success as it begins commercial operations and called for sustained collaboration between the public and private sectors to drive Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda.
