Tinubu Congratulates Jimoh Ibrahim on Election as Chair of UN Budget Committee
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Jimoh Ibrahim on his election as Chairman of the United Nations General Assembly Fifth Committee on Budget and Administration.
In a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu described Ibrahim’s election as significant, coming at a critical period when the United Nations is undertaking major financial realignments and institutional reforms aimed at improving effectiveness, accountability and long-term sustainability.
The President said Ibrahim’s emergence as chair of the committee shortly after assuming his role at the UN reflects the confidence the international community has in his experience in public service, diplomacy, business leadership and governance.
According to Tinubu, Ibrahim’s service as a member of the Nigerian Senate Committee on Budget and Appropriation and Chairman of Inter-Parliamentary Relations, as well as his experience in both the private and public sectors, have equipped him with the skills needed to provide strategic leadership for the committee.
He also praised the ambassador’s academic and professional background, describing him as a respected legal scholar with expertise in international taxation and business administration, adding that these qualities have enabled him to demonstrate a deep understanding of global governance and financial systems.
The President expressed confidence that Ibrahim’s experience and commitment to excellence would justify his appointment as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the UN and help advance the work of the Fifth Committee in support of the broader objectives of the United Nations.
Tinubu concluded by congratulating Ibrahim on what he described as a remarkable achievement and the confidence reposed in him by the international community.
