Tinubu calls for peace, religious tolerance in 2025 Christmas message

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged Nigerians to embrace peace, religious tolerance, and unity as Christians across the country and around the world celebrate Christmas.

In his 2025 Christmas goodwill message released on December 25, the President said the season goes beyond celebration and festivities, reminding Christians of the birth of Jesus Christ and his message of salvation, hope, and peace as the Prince of Peace.

Tinubu congratulated Christians in Nigeria and globally on the occasion, thanking God for the opportunity to serve as President and offering prayers for peace in the country, particularly among people of different religious beliefs.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting religious freedom and ensuring the safety of Nigerians of all faiths, stressing that no one should suffer discrimination, violence, or hardship because of their religion, ethnicity, or belief.

“As your President, I remain committed to doing everything within my power to enshrine religious freedom in Nigeria and to protect all people of different faiths from violence,” he said.

The President also acknowledged the contributions of Christians to Nigeria’s development, noting that the love of Christ and the teachings of the Gospel have inspired many to care for the vulnerable and less privileged, as well as promote peace, harmony, and tolerance in their communities.

Reflecting on the nation’s challenges, Tinubu assured Nigerians that his government remains steadfast in safeguarding the country’s security, unity, and stability, in line with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

He disclosed that throughout the year, his administration engaged leaders of the country’s major faiths to address concerns over religious intolerance and insecurity, adding that the government would strengthen collaboration with religious institutions to prevent conflict and promote peaceful coexistence.

The President also advised Nigerians travelling during the festive season to exercise patience and maintain discipline on the roads, wishing them safe journeys and safe returns.

Expressing confidence in divine providence and national resilience, Tinubu said Nigeria would continue on the path of building a stronger country that future generations would be proud of.

He concluded by wishing Nigerians a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year in advance.
