Budget: Tinubu allocates ₦5.41trn to Defence, Prioritises Food Security, Targets One Million Hectares for Farming
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has outlined key priority areas of his administration, with significant budgetary allocations to defence and security, infrastructure, education, and health, while reaffirming food security as a national priority.
According to the breakdown, the defence and security sector received the highest allocation of ₦5.41 trillion, reflecting the Federal Government’s focus on addressing security challenges across the country. Infrastructure followed with ₦3.56 trillion, aimed at accelerating road construction, rail development, power projects, and other critical national assets.
The education sector was allocated ₦3.52 trillion, underscoring the administration’s commitment to human capital development, while health and social services received ₦2.48 trillion to strengthen healthcare delivery and social protection programmes.
Speaking on the government’s economic and agricultural agenda, President Tinubu said food security would remain a central pillar of national policy. He disclosed that the Federal Government is targeting the cultivation of one million hectares of land by Nigerian farmers as part of efforts to boost local food production, reduce inflationary pressures, and enhance self-sufficiency.
The president also expressed optimism about improved government revenue, noting that new tax laws and ongoing reforms in the oil sector are expected to significantly strengthen the nation’s fiscal position. According to him, these measures are designed to expand the revenue base, improve efficiency, and support sustainable economic growth.
Tinubu maintained that the combined focus on security, infrastructure, agriculture, and revenue reforms would help stabilise the economy and lay the foundation for long-term national development.
