Stand for the People or Lose Them’ — Kwankwasiyya Chairman Issues Warning to NDC
A fresh crisis appears to be brewing within the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) following a strongly worded letter by the Anambra State Chairman of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Revd Pius Ndubueze Ukachukwu II, accusing the party leadership of mishandling its ongoing primary elections and attempting to sideline aspirants linked to the Obedient and Kwankwasiyya movements.
In the letter dated June 8, 2026, and addressed to the party’s national leader, Ukachukwu expressed disappointment over the conduct of the primaries, alleging that the process had been characterized by disregard for fairness, transparency, and inclusion.
He accused the party leadership of ignoring internal advice and established guidelines while allegedly frustrating qualified aspirants associated with the Obedient and Kwankwasiyya political blocs from securing party tickets.
According to him, both movements represent significant grassroots support that the party requires to remain politically relevant ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Kwankwasiyya leader warned that excluding aspirants from the two groups could undermine public confidence in the party and weaken its electoral prospects. He argued that political success in 2027 would depend largely on candidates with strong grassroots acceptance rather than those imposed through internal party arrangements.
Ukachukwu further cautioned that failure to provide what he described as a level playing field for all aspirants could result in the loss of public trust and electoral setbacks for the party.
He urged the NDC leadership to review its approach and ensure that all aspirants, including those affiliated with the Obedient and Kwankwasiyya movements, are allowed to participate freely in the primaries.
The letter concluded with a warning that continued exclusion of the groups could have far-reaching consequences for the party’s unity and chances in the 2027 elections.
As of the time of filing this report, the NDC leadership had not publicly responded to the allegations.
