Six Zamfara Assembly members dump PDP for APC
Six members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), dealing another blow to the opposition party in the state.
The lawmakers announced their defection during plenary at the state assembly, citing internal crises within the PDP and the need to align with what they described as a more stable and progressive platform. Their letters of defection were read on the floor of the House by the Speaker.
The defecting legislators are Hon. Muktar Nasir Kaura (Kaura North), Hon. Nasiru Abdullahi Maru (Maru North), Hon. Amiru Ahmad Keta (Tsafe West), Hon. Bashar Aliyu Gummi (Gummi I Constituency), Barr. Bashir Abubakar Masama (Bukkuyum North), and Hon. Bashir Bello (Bungudu West).
Following the defection, the Speaker welcomed the lawmakers to their new party and urged them to continue serving their constituents with diligence and commitment. Leaders of the APC in the state also hailed the move, describing it as a vote of confidence in the party’s leadership and policies.
The defection further strengthens the APC’s position in the Zamfara State House of Assembly and underscores the growing political realignments ahead of future electoral contests in the state. Meanwhile, the PDP is yet to officially react to the latest development.
