Shun Foreign Culture And Embrace Yoruba Culture – Osun Commissioner Tasks Youths

By ABIODUN JIMOH
Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, State of Osun, Hon. Adebisi Obawale has advised Osun youths both at home and in Diaspora to shun foreign culture and embrace Yoruba culture irrespective of their locations.
Hon. Obawale further charged them to cultivate the habit of promoting our indigenous Yoruba culture wherever they are in order to sustain it.
The Commissioner gave the advice on Wednesday when Association of Students of Osun Indigenes, Lagos State University paid a courtesy visit to him in his office as part of their activities to mark the 28th Anniversary of the Association.
Hon. Obawale said: “Shun foreign culture and embrace Yoruba culture such as music, food, dressing and language. If Yoruba culture is well developed and appropriately practiced, it is capable of providing job opportunities for our teeming youths.”
He explained that the programme ” Karele Oodua ” is a Cultural Festival that was organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism with the concept of bringing back Osun Indigenes in the Diaspora to trace their route and contribute their quota to the development of the state.
He therefore urged the students to be  good ambassadors of Osun and not  associate themselves with cultism bearing in mind that they have a long way to go.
Speaking earlier, the President of the Association, Oluwadamilare Ajayi, who spoke on behalf narrated that the purpose of their ten days tour to the State of Osun was to remind Osun students and youths at large to always remember home and Yoruba culture and to see the beauty of the state in terms of culture and tourism sites.
Furthermore, Oluwadamilare disclosed that Osun is blessed with natural tourist sites  such as Ile Oodua, Oranmiyan Staff (Opa Oranmiyan), Olumirin Water Fall in Erin Ijesa among others, which if promoted, will sustain the much cherished Yoruba culture.
