Shekarau Dumps PDP for APC in Major Kano Political Shift
Former Kano State Governor, Ibrahim Shekarau, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a significant development in Nigeria’s political landscape.
Shekarau made the announcement on Sunday at a well-attended gathering held at his residence, popularly known as Mundubawa Palace in Kano State.
The event drew political allies, supporters, and key stakeholders from across the state.
He was joined in the move by Senator Bello Hayatu Gwarzo, who also confirmed his defection from the PDP to the APC during the gathering.
In his remarks, Shekarau said the decision followed extensive consultations with his supporters and political associates, emphasizing the need to align with a platform he believes will better serve the interests of Kano State and its people.
The defection is expected to reshape political alignments in Kano, a key battleground state, and could have broader implications for party dynamics ahead of future elections.
Party officials and political observers are closely watching the development, as it adds to a series of recent defections that continue to redefine Nigeria’s political landscape.
