Senator Samaila Defects from PDP to APC

….Cites Party Crisis and Tinubu’s Reforms

Senator Kaila Samaila, representing Bauchi North, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio and read during Tuesday’s plenary, Samaila said his decision stemmed from persistent internal crises within the PDP, which he claimed had hindered his ability to serve his constituents effectively.

“The Peoples Democratic Party has gravely constrained my ability to discharge my constitutional responsibilities in good conscience,” the letter partly read. “To remain committed to national service and the welfare of my people, I find it necessary to align with a more progressive platform that stands for unity, growth, and disciplined governance.”

Explaining his choice, Samaila praised President Bola Tinubu’s administration for its “bold and transformative” policies aimed at stabilizing the economy and promoting sustainable development.

“I have decided to join the All Progressives Congress and fully support the reforms of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whose leadership embodies the decisive direction our nation requires,” he stated.

The Bauchi North senator also commended Senate President Akpabio for his “exemplary leadership” of the 10th National Assembly and pledged full loyalty to his new party while reaffirming his commitment to national unity and progress.

Following his defection, the APC now holds 74 seats in the Senate, while the PDP has 27, Labour Party four, the All Progressives Grand Alliance two, the New Nigeria Peoples Party one, and the Social Democratic Party one — completing the 109-member chamber.
