Senator Onawo parts ways with PDP, gives personal grounds

The senator representing Nasarawa South Senatorial District, Ogoshi Onawo, has formally withdrawn from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Onawo conveyed his decision in a resignation letter dated January 10, 2026, which he addressed to the PDP chairman of Galadimawa Ward in Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State. He stated that his resignation took effect immediately.

“I hereby inform you of my decision to resign my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Galadimawa Ward, Doma Local Government Area, with effect from today, January 10, 2026,” the senator wrote.

According to the lawmaker, the move was taken after careful reflection and was based strictly on personal reasons.

He expressed gratitude to the party’s leadership, members, and supporters for the opportunity to serve on the PDP platform, noting that he valued the trust and cooperation he received during his time in the party.

Onawo also wished the PDP well in its future endeavours but stopped short of revealing his next political step.

Despite the silence on his political future, the senator has been linked to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), following reports that he was seen at the party’s meeting in July 2025.
