Seized N15B probe: NIA finance officials to appear before Osinbajo’s investigative panel today

Some officials of the finance department of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) are scheduled to appear before the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo-led investigative panel, Punch reports.

The officials according to NAIJ.com were some of the aides of the suspended director general of the NIA Ayodele Oke who has been accused of hiding N13 billion in a safe house in Ikoyi, Lagos state.

A source within the presidency said the panel expects the officials to explain how such huge amount of money was kept outside a financial institution.

“Some of those invited are from the finance department. The panel hopes to understand the workings of the NIA and how it spends cash relating to projects and security matters.

“The invited persons will also explain what the money was spent on and what sort of security projects the NIA had done which required such a sum of money,” the source said.

He however said that while invitations have been sent out to these officials, the panel is yet to sent a letter of invitation to the suspended DG.

Recall that N13 billion was discovered by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in a luxury apartment in Osbrone Road in Ikoyi, Lagos state

The money which was recovered in both foreign and local currencies were said to have been allegedly stored by the NIA for covert operations.
