Security Operatives After Kidnappers of NTIC Staff, Students
Security operatives are on the trail of kidnappers who abducted a Turkish teacher, three other staff and three students on Friday night at the premises of the Nigerian Tulip International Colleges, (NTIC), Isheri in Ogun State.
The state police spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi who confirmed the report, said security operatives have spread their nets in search of the victims few hours after the incident.
Daily Trust on Sunday also gathered that the Zone 2 Police Command boss, Assistant Inspector-General, (AIG) of Police Kayode Aderanti, Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Ilyasu, his Lagos State counterpart, Fatai Owoseni and Ogun State Director of State Security, Kabiru Sanni, were mobilized immediately the incident occurred.
According to a statement by the spokesperson of NTIC schools, Cemal Yigit, the incident happened at about 9.30pm when the armed kidnappers gained entrance to the girls’ section of the school through different means and held hostage three female supervisors, a female cook, a female Turkish teacher and three students.
“Upon hearing the security alarm and sighting our security personnel, the armed invaders opened fire on the security staff and managed to escape through a very dangerous route with the hostages,” he said.
Speaking while receiving the deputy governor of Ogun State, Mrs Yetunde Onanuga yesterday at the school premises, the Principal, Yunus Emre Dogan and Security Adviser, Stephen Adewunmi, confirmed that the kidnapped Turkish teacher teaches Mathematics.
The Principal said the three students were studying for their JAMB exams.
Addressing parents who were at the school to take their children home, the deputy governor said the government was on top of the situation to ensure the safe return of the kidnapped students, adding that the government had immediately put security measures on ground.
A parent whose child was kidnapped, Ahmad Ajani, said he got the news midnight that his 22-year-old daughter, Hanatullah, was involved describing the incident as sad and unfortunate.
Another parent, Funmi Tijani blamed the management of the school institution for not putting enough security measures, including lighting up the area.
