Saudi Arabia Declares June 6 as Eid-el-Adha (Sallah Day)

Saudi Arabia has officially announced the sighting of the crescent moon, marking the beginning of Dhul Hijjah, the twelfth and final month of the Islamic lunar calendar.

According to an update shared on X (formerly Twitter) by Haramain Sharifain on Tuesday, Dhul Hijjah 1446 will commence on Wednesday, May 28, 2025. The announcement also outlined key dates for the upcoming Islamic observances:

The Day of Arafah, observed on June 5, is a deeply significant spiritual event during which pilgrims gather at Mount Arafat for the pinnacle of the Hajj pilgrimage.

Eid-el-Adha, celebrated on June 6, follows immediately. Known as the Festival of Sacrifice, it honors the devotion of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham), who was willing to sacrifice his son in obedience to God. The day is marked by communal prayers, acts of charity, and the symbolic sacrifice of animals, observed by Muslims around the world.

This official declaration helps Muslims worldwide align their spiritual and logistical preparations for Hajj and Eid, a time of deep worship and communal solidarity.

Last year, Eid-el-Adha was observed on June 16, 2024.
