PSC Mourns Former Chairman Solomon Arase

Describes Him as a Great Patriot
The Police Service Commission (PSC) has described the death of its immediate past Chairman and former Inspector General of Police, Dr. Solomon Ehigiator Arase, CFR, as a tragic loss to the Commission and the entire nation.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Commission’s Head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, the PSC said Dr. Arase was not only a distinguished law enforcement officer but also a visionary leader and patriot whose life was marked by dedication, courage, and reform.
“His passing is a great loss, not only to the Commission but to Nigeria as a whole. Dr. Arase was a cerebral leader and pathfinder whose contributions to public service were both exemplary and transformative,” the statement read.
As Chairman of the PSC, Dr. Arase was credited with providing stabilizing leadership that helped reposition the Commission. One of the most notable achievements of his tenure was the successful relocation of the Commission to its permanent corporate headquarters in Jabi, Abuja—an enduring legacy of his vision and commitment to institutional development.
In honor of his memory, the PSC has opened a condolence register at its headquarters.
Earlier today, a delegation from the Commission paid a condolence visit to Dr. Arase’s residence in Abuja. The delegation was led by retired Supreme Court Justice Paul Adamu Galumje, the Honourable Commissioner representing the Judiciary on the PSC Board. Justice Galumje stood in for the current PSC Chairman, retired Deputy Inspector General of Police Hashimu Argungu, mni.
Other members of the delegation included DIG Taiwo Lakanu (rtd), Honourable Commissioner representing the Police; Alhaji Mohammed Abdulfatah, representing the Organized Private Sector; as well as Directors and staff of the Commission.
The delegation offered prayers for the peaceful repose of Dr. Arase’s soul and extended condolences to his family, the Nigeria Police Force, and the nation at large.
“May God grant his family the strength to bear this profound loss, and may his noble soul rest in perfect peace,” the PSC said.
