Press Council Applauds DSS Over Release of Detained Journalists in Jos

The Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Press Council (NPC), Dr. Dili Ezughah, has lauded the Department of State Services (DSS) for facilitating the release of two journalists earlier detained in Jos, Plateau State.

In a statement signed by the Council’s Director of Research and Documentation, Mr. Dan Ede, on Monday in Abuja, Ezughah described the development as a refreshing step in strengthening the relationship between the media and the nation’s security agencies.

“The recent release of two journalists who were wrongfully detained in Jos marks a positive turning point in press-security relations in Nigeria. It was heartwarming to witness such understanding,” Ezughah said.

He praised the Director-General of the DSS, Mr. Oluwatosin Ajayi, for his “display of uncommon humility and understanding,” noting that the Service’s new approach toward collaboration with the media bodes well for national unity and development.

Ezughah urged journalists to reciprocate the gesture by adhering strictly to the Code of Ethics for Nigerian Journalists, emphasizing that professionalism and ethical conduct remain vital to maintaining mutual trust.

He reaffirmed the NPC’s commitment to upholding ethical standards and promoting professionalism within the Nigerian press.
