President Tinubu condoles Ogun State, Onabanjo family over death of Chief Lucia Onabanjo
President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep condolences to the Government and people of Ogun State, as well as the Onabanjo family, over the passing of Chief Lucia Onabanjo, former First Lady of the state and matriarch of the Onabanjo family.
Chief Lucia Onabanjo died on Monday, January 12, at the age of 101.
In a condolence message, the President sympathised with the family, friends, and associates of the late wife of the first civilian Governor of Ogun State, Chief Victor Olabisi Onabanjo, who served between 1979 and 1983.
President Tinubu described the late matriarch as a compassionate and selfless woman whose investments in people and community development left a lasting impact across Ogun State and the nation. He noted that the widespread tributes and testimonies following her passing reflected the depth of her influence and kindness.
According to the President, Chief Lucia Onabanjo played a supportive and commendable role during her husband’s tenure as governor, while also showing strong commitment to issues affecting children and the empowerment of women.
“Lucia Onabanjo’s strong support for her husband when he served as Ogun State Governor for four years was commendable, and her keen interest in issues of children and empowerment of women was exemplary,” Tinubu said.
He added that her legacy of charity and kindness would continue to resonate and urged the Ogun State Government and the Onabanjo family to immortalise her by promoting her lifelong dedication to the poor and vulnerable.
The President prayed for the repose of her soul and asked God to grant strength and comfort to her family during the period of mourning.
