Presidency rebukes Senator Ndume over ‘reckless’ television remarks

The Presidency has strongly cautioned Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, who represents Borno South Senatorial District, over what it described as “reckless and unsubstantiated” comments made during a recent television appearance.

In a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, the Presidency criticized Ndume—also a former Senate Chief Whip—for making sweeping allegations without evidence. Onanuga stated that such remarks undermine Ndume’s credibility and diminish the respect he commands.

Responding to Ndume’s claim that a cabal has hijacked the Tinubu administration and that it is now dominated by kleptocrats and kakistocrats, Onanuga dismissed the accusations as baseless.

“Senator Ndume is entitled to his opinion, even as a lone-wolf critic within the APC. However, he frequently misrepresents facts or constructs arguments on shaky grounds,” Onanuga said. “He once falsely claimed that General Buratai was ambushed by terrorists.”

Onanuga went on to question Ndume’s understanding of the terms he used: “His labeling of the government as being run by ‘kakistocrats’ is not only exaggerated, but also raises questions about whether he even understands the term or simply enjoys using provocative language.”

Defending the administration, Onanuga noted that President Tinubu has assembled a team of competent aides, many of whom were accomplished professionals prior to joining government.

“These individuals are doing a commendable job in reengineering the country’s economy and laying a solid foundation for long-term, sustainable growth,” he added.
