Tinubu to Wike: Let results speak, not the detractors
At the commissioning of the newly rehabilitated International Conference Centre (ICC) in Abuja, President Bola Tinubu underscored the symbolism of the project as a representation of his administration’s resolve to redefine public service delivery and national image.
Describing the revitalised ICC as a reflection of “a new way of doing things,” Tinubu highlighted the Federal Capital Territory’s facelift as part of broader reforms aimed at instilling discipline, excellence, and quality governance across Nigeria.
Tinubu applauded FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for executing the project with urgency and determination, praising him as a transformational leader who has brought renewed energy to the capital’s infrastructure. The president urged the minister to remain focused on his assignment and ignore distractions from critics.
“Don’t mind the busybodies and bystanders,” Tinubu said. “Your work speaks for itself. Stay the course. You have the vision and willpower to deliver results.”
Minister Wike, speaking earlier, credited the president for backing the rehabilitation effort, revealing that it came as a direct response to Tinubu’s instruction to restore dignity to the iconic venue, which had seen no renovations since its original commissioning in 1991 under General Ibrahim Babangida’s military government.
Wike also made it clear that the newly refurbished halls would no longer be accessed freely, adding that all ministries and agencies must pay to use the facility to ensure sustainable maintenance.
In revamping a long-neglected national monument, both Tinubu and Wike signaled a joint commitment to purposeful governance and infrastructure renewal—prioritising action over rhetoric in their bid to elevate the Federal Capital’s standing.
