Political Shake-Up in Zamfara as Lawal, Deputy Quit PDP for APC
Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State and his deputy, Mani Mummuni, have officially left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Mummuni made the announcement on Monday, March 9, 2026, during a meeting with party stakeholders and supporters in the state, speaking on behalf of the governor.
According to the deputy governor, the decision to defect followed a series of consultations and a thorough assessment of the current political climate at both the state and national levels.
He conveyed Lawal’s position that the move came after wide-ranging discussions with political associates and key stakeholders.
“We, the governor, his team, and I, have resolved to formally leave the PDP and join the APC,” Mummuni said.
He explained that the defection was aimed at strengthening Zamfara’s collaboration with the federal government and attracting greater developmental opportunities for the state.
Mummuni added that aligning with the ruling party would help the state secure increased federal support, address security challenges, and fast-track economic and infrastructure development.
He also called on party members, supporters, and residents of Zamfara to support the decision, noting that it was taken in the best interest of the state.
